Flower Season at Nickel & Nickel

on September 4, 2013

We may be getting ready for harvest, but it’s also flower season at Nickel & Nickel. Landscape Designer Daniel Townsend has again worked wonders with a magical mix of zinnias, cosmos and, a new addition this year, sunflowers. Enjoy!

Meet Our 2010 Single-Vineyard Cabernets

on September 2, 2013

We officially released our 2010 Nickel & Nickel Single-Vineyard Cabernets in August to an appreciative crowd.

2010 Nickel & Nickel Cabernets

Winemaker Darice Spinelli describes the 2010 Cabernets as showing ripe fruit, with polished tannins and a nice integration of oak. The wines strike a nice balance of being approachable now, but able to evolve beautifully in bottle.

To learn more about these wines, visit our portfolio or you may acquire your favorites among the vintage online here.

Guests on our tours and tastings have the opportunity to taste several of these 2010 Cabs side by side. We’re currently pouring:

2010 Nickel & Nickel C. C. Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford, Napa Valley

2010 Nickel & Nickel Quarry Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford, Napa Valley

2010 Nickel & Nickel State Ranch, Yountville, Napa Valley

2010 Nickel & Nickel Kelham Vineyard, Oakville, Napa Valley

We are in one of our busiest seasons of the year, so please call well in advance of your planned visit. The wines presented on tours and tastings change every few weeks. We look forward to seeing you!

Nickel & Nickel Gardens—Connecting the Past to the Present

on May 23, 2013

Nickel & Nickel garden

An abundance of texture and color lead to the Sullenger House entrance.

The grounds of our 1870s-era gentleman’s farmstead here in the Napa Valley are planted with the same flowers that may have flourished on this bucolic country estate more than a century ago. A stroll in the rose gardens, surrounded by the architecture of a bygone era, is enough to overwhelm you with a sense of time travel. A palette of soft pastel blues, lavenders, pinks and purples blanket the beds around the Sullenger house and main entrance to the winery. Blue and white Victoria Salvias are ready to push their spires ever higher above the waves of petunias, rising like candelabras.

Working together with my team and Mother Nature, we form a path connecting the past to the present, with a keen eye to the future. Please join us in the gardens as the days of summer saunter in.

To Catch a Thief

on April 18, 2013

You can make out like a bandit in more than one way during our Cabernet Futures Program! This is your chance to reserve our 2012 Nickel & Nickel wines while they are still aging in the barrel. The French call this process en primeur (literally ‘in youth’). Futures purchasers benefit by reserving the wines they love at current release prices, with the added convenience of receiving them after bottling and without risking a sellout of these limited-production, sought-after wines upon release.  Our Nickel & Nickel Futures are available for a limited time each year, from April 30 through July 31, and shipped in early spring 2015.

But the big reward goes to those that buy any 18-bottle Futures purchase with a membership in our Futures Thief Club! Members of this club receive their own etched Nickel & Nickel wine thief–a tool to sample or “steal” wine directly from the barrel. Members then have the opportunity to return to the winery on two occasions over the next several months to experience a private barrel tasting of the wines they purchased as they age and chart their progress.

Get a glimpse of the future and build your cellar collection now. Our 2012 Cabernets promise to steal your heart.
