We like to think the weather cooled down just for us and our guests on Saturday, May 17, but the truth is, the whole Napa Valley benefited from a gorgeous day last Saturday—our Saturday just happened to be accompanied by barrel samples of our 2013 Cabernets. Our annual Futures event is the opportunity to taste the most recent Cabernet vintage, while it is still developing in the barrel. The wines are very much in a formative state, but the characteristics of each vineyard are already beginning to shine through. It’s a real treat to be able to taste the wines at this stage, and our guests were able to reserve their favorites among the 15 Cabernets. Learn more about the 2013 Napa Cabernet Sauvignons here, and to reserve your own selection of these limited wines (available through July 31, 2014), email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call (707) 967-9600. For photos from the event, check out our album on Facebook.

Those of you familiar with the periodic table will recognize the reference—Element 28 refers, yes, to nickel. We thought it fitting.
2012 is the inaugural vintage for this Single-Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is located near Lake Hennessey and bears the hallmarks of a great Napa hillside cab. Exquisite, ripe, boysenberry fruit is complemented by floral expressions that add dimension. A solid core of tannin enhances the wine’s impressive character.
This wine was a pleasure to share at our Futures Barrel Tasting this spring, and we look forward to enjoying this wine again upon release.
Quarry Vineyard, in the Nickel & Nickel portfolio since 2008, is comprised of three distinct hillside blocks, each experiencing its own unique soil and exposure, bringing delightful complexity to the wine.
We captured some of the 2012 Quarry Vineyard harvest in this video—take a look!
Winemaker Darice Spinelli tasted the wine recently, and described the wine as: “a classic expression of its vineyard site with flavors of berry, green olive, tobacco, tea and spice. Round and supple, these flavors linger on a foundation of soft tannin that will integrate with the oak to produce a wine of great complexity.”
Nickel & Nickel Quarry Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is still aging in barrel, and won’t be released until September 2015, but you can reserve this wine now. Contact us to find out more.
C.C. Ranch Napa Valley Cabernet has been in our portfolio since 2005. Tasted in April this year, Winemaker Darice Spinelli noted that this Rutherford wine is a bit darker compared to previous vintages due to the extra tank time. She says the wine exhibits a beautiful blend of red and black cherry fruits, hints of Rutherford Dust and a rich core of tannin that adds depth to the wine. As this wine ages in the barrel, it will harmonize and gain complexity from the oak, adding opulence upon release.
Harvest 2012 may be in the past, but it is anything but forgotten as we begin to offer our 2012 Napa Cabernet Futures to Nickel & Nickel fans. This is video a fun look back on a harvest season that brought us an abundance of quality fruit which, now in barrel, display all the characteristics of an excellent vintage.
2012 was the kind of vintage winemakers dream about. Conditions were nearly ideal from bud break through harvest, including warm, summer days and cool, foggy nights – just the right elements for nurturing a vintage of incredible quality, and this year, one of ample proportions. Such an occurrence is rare and we are excited to share our 2012 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Futures with you this spring.
We kept the wines in tanks a bit longer than usual, developing rich and generous profiles that will age to perfection. Plush, ripe fruit and juicy tannins are prevalent throughout. Each vineyard expression is at its youthful peak this time of year before settling down into the aging process, so this is the perfect opportunity to barrel taste. Although the wines are young, look for the flavors that appeal to your palate, as that is ultimately what will be most enjoyable about these wines once they are bottled and delivered to you.
